Over 100 companies looking to raise capital have applied to pitch at The Innovation Showcase, the largest startup showcase in Indiana and possibly the Midwest. Only 75 companies will make the cut and get to pitch to a crowd of over 1,000 people.
The event includes an exhibit hall, company pitches, panel discussions and keynote presentations by T.A. McCann and Chris Heivly, both seasoned entrepreneurs with amazing stories. Who knows, maybe one of them will see a company they like and invest along with laying down some knowledge at this year’s event.
T.A. McCann is a serial entrepreneur and now an angel investor. He has founded six companies including Gist.com that was acquired by Blackberry in 2011 and his current venture, Rival IQ, for monitoring competitive landscapes. McCann is on the board of Startup Weekend and the University of Washington Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship.
He’s an active mentor at TechStars and has an engineering degree from Purdue University. He recently gave advice to Purdue student entrepreneurs going through anvil’s on-campus accelerator you can read on his site.
Chris Heivly is another startup rockstar known for his talks on how to start anything, including his widely acclaimed TEDx talk, Build The Fort (watch below). Heivly has directed over $75 million in investment capital for companies including MapQuest (which sold for more than $1.2 billion to AOL), Rand McNally and Accenture. His firm, the Startup Factory, has made 35 investments in the past three years to emerging technology companies. His investments have had an unusually high rate of success raising follow on capital under his direction. Heivly was featured in the documentary Startupland, is a contributing writer to Inc.com and has been dubbed “The Startup Whisperer.”
