This August, Verge had the pleasure of working with Pattern, an awesome fashion and design community here in Indianapolis. Our event was themed “Fashion Tech” and featured presentations from Maddy Maxey and Mari Kussman, co-founders of Crated, a custom textile and pattern development company based out of New York.

Over 130 Fashion Techies and Tech Fashionistas crammed into the antiquated gym at the Harrison Center for the Arts. The old field house style windows and wooden bleachers provided a visually unique backdrop for what was certainly a unique night for Verge and Pattern attendees alike.

Here are some of the best tweets of the night from #IndyDressCode

Activity on our hashtag began before anyone stepped into the building. Our friends over at Lyft were generous enough to give away a Pebble watch to whoever tweeted us their best “Power Accessory.” We got tons of great submissions, ranging from trendy and fashionable to unique and practical.

But Meggie and her new frames would walk away with a brand new Pebble watch.

From the time they entered the gym, you could sense an energy about August’s attendees.

Judging by the mustache, we suspect this to be the conquistador to which she was referring…

Although we’re not ruling out this mustached fellow, either.

There was a lot of action going on in front of our Pattern and Verge repeater wall

Followed of course by kicking off the event.

We then heard from Matt Hunckler, which was met with some enthusiasm and some friendly jabs.

We then heard from Maddy Maxey

And her co-founder, Mari Kussman.

And then of course, our fireside chat.

Featuring some questions with obvious answers…

The answer is yes, obviously.

Key Takeaways

  • Fashion and tech have a lot more in common than you think
  • Fashionistas and techies can get along quite well
  • Indianapolis has some really kick ass people involved in their communities

August’s event was really incredible. I know from the Verge end, there was something very exciting and refreshing about working with a community in Indianapolis as awesome as Pattern. If you were unable to attend, I hope this post gives you a sense of how much fun the night was and I hope you guys can make it out next month. Until then, keep it trendy, Indy.
