About our Team:

At Upgrade, the Platform team works horizontally with our different engineering teams. We build tools, services and shared libraries to simplify / abstract / speedup the day to day of our developers.

We are looking for a passionate Kafka engineer to help us push our messaging infrastructure to the next level. We are already using Kafka in production at the moment, but Upgrade is growing and we now have a sub team dedicated to building our next generation streaming platform. Join us!

This is a remote position based in the United States.

What You'll Do:

• Contribute to the continuous optimization of our Kafka infrastructure
• Code new libraries and tools to make Kafka more simplified, efficient and easier to use – to keep pace with the increasing traffic on the platform and rapid growth of Upgrade
• Prototype different patterns of integration with Kafka at the Kubernetes level
• Help troubleshoot Kafka issues
• Drive Kafka adoption across Upgrade’s engineering teams

What We Look For:

• Previous experience designing and maintaining Kafka
• Demonstrated history of investigating and resolving Kafka challenges in a production environment
• Experience building services on top of Kafka
• Good programming knowledge – Golang, Python and/or Java
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and its constructs
• In-depth knowledge and experience in AWS
• Excellent communication and empathy skills – you will interact with different stakeholders at Upgrade to help define our vision
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
