We’re looking for a Lead Research Scientist who is excited to work with physiological data and can help us identify and evaluate cutting edge sensor technologies and find ways to leverage the data they produce to provide value to our members.

As a Lead Research Scientist on the R&D team, you’ll head initiatives researching the next generation of sensing technology. You will manage a team of data scientists working at the intersection of hardware, software, and analytics, and owning the data science function within R&D. You’ll guide the development of new sensors and technology by evaluating and analyzing collected datasets, often collected through experiments you will design. Your efforts will ultimately aid in the deployment of cutting-edge technology to the marketplace, helping our members live healthier and happier lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design experiments to collect data from prototypes
  • Evaluate and analyze experimental sensor datasets and develop models and algorithms to translate sensor data into meaningful physiological measurements
  • Inform the development of hardware, sensors, and other technology based on the results of your data analyses
  • Manage a team of data scientists and communicate effectively with immediate and external team members
  • Work collaboratively in a R&D environment adapting to rapidly evolving requirements
  • Manage and prioritize research efforts to support ongoing R&D initiatives and maintaining accountability to tight timelines
  • Formalize, document, refine your learnings, and contribute to intellectual property creation
  • Reports to the Director of R&D

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years experience applying advanced data science techniques
  • Experience managing and leading others
  • Proficiency in statistics, optimization, machine learning, and data visualization
  • Proficiency in scientific Python and SQL
  • Ability to formulate hypotheses, design experiments to collect necessary data, draw conclusions and deliver results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present findings to stakeholders and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences

_ This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office._
