As a Senior RF Engineer at WHOOP, you will be a member of the Electrical Engineering team and work with the cross functional teams developing and supporting cutting edge wearable technologies. You will be the primary technical resource for all RF and wireless functions on the team, including RF communications, wireless power transfer, coil and antenna design, system integration, RF performance validation, and regulatory certification. You will regularly interface with internal engineering teams, external vendors and suppliers, testing and certification bodies, and contract manufacturers (CMs) to deliver exceptional product performance, safety, and reliability. You are deeply familiar with RF concepts and best practices and you have the vocabulary and communication skills to work with a diverse cross functional team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the architecture, development, integration, and validation of wireless power/data transmission, wireless communication, and other RF subsystems
  • Hands-on analysis, validation, and debugging using lab equipment including spectrum analyzers, impedance analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc…
  • Circuit simulation and mathematical analysis using SPICE, HFSS, Matlab, or similar tools
  • Work in a highly cross-functional environment with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver fully validated RF systems
  • Define RF hardware test requirements and design test systems for in-house performance evaluation as well as production manufacturing test
  • Leverage contractors to support new and existing system designs as necessary
  • Management and technical support of wireless certification testing to standards such as FCC Title 47 Part 15 and Part 18, CISPR 11, EN 55035, EN 50366, RED Directive, etc…
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout of electrical circuits using tools such as Altium
  • Electrical, electromechanical, and RF component selection
  • Work with diverse cross-functional teams to validate hardware features, improve device performance, and provide support
  • Support research and development of next generation features, technologies, and manufacturing techniques that enable miniaturization and feature expansion
  • Travel up to 15%, domestically and internationally (North America, Asia, Europe)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or greater in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years experience in relevant fields
  • Experience with wireless power transmission in small form factors including coil design, system characterization and tuning, and design for manufacture
  • Experience with RF communication systems, including antenna design, integration, and desense for Bluetooth, WiFi, GNSS, and 5G applications
  • Extensive RF and electrical engineering skills including circuit design, component fundamentals, power supply design, layout, digital communication protocols, manufacturing techniques, and debug
  • Lab experience including soldering and the use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, etc.
  • Experience with simulation software such as SPICE and HFSS
  • Familiarity with ECAD tools such as Altium and PLM tools like Arena
  • Exposure to wireless power transfer standard such as NFC Wireless Charging or Qi
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing in consumer or medical spaces

** This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.**
