The Sr. Manager, Manufacturing and Equipment Engineering will lead a manufacturing engineering organization that will oversee the development and implementation of product manufacturing processes that maintain proper product functionality, configuration control, product quality, and cost-efficiency.

The Sr. Manager ensures the engineering team and other manufacturing departments work together as one cohesive unit. Responsible for overseeing the development of equipment, tooling, processes, and manufacturing processes to aid in the manufacturing & assembly processes. Reviews, evaluates, and implements engineering changes and specification requirements.

The team is composed of manufacturing engineers, tool engineers, planners, and producibility engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Building a high performing engineering team of Manufacturing, Tooling and Ground Support Equipment Engineers
  • Developing and maintaining the technical standards for Manufacturing Definition, Manufacturing Work Instructions and design/analysis practices for Tooling and Ground Support Equipment, including CAD modelling standards, analysis methods, and expectations for formal design reviews.
  • Providing technical mentorship and appropriate training to build team proficiency
  • Working with Project Leads and Program Management to properly support programs with team resources
  • Selecting and maintaining engineering tools and processes appropriate for supported programs.
  • Providing People Management services to team members - including performance reviews, career development support, routine one-on-one meetings, and feedback opportunities
  • Planning team resource needs, hiring, recruiting efforts, and technical interviews
  • Maintaining a cohesive team across projects by holding routine group meetings to communicate information from the organization, lessons learned, and other improvement opportunities

Required

  • 15+ years of experience in aerospace structures development
  • 5+ years in an engineering leadership role
  • Masters/PhD degree in Material/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or similar technical field
  • Industrial engineering experience working in high-volume assembly processes
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as NX (preferred), Solidworks, CATIA, etc.
  • Proficiency in drafting standards including GD&T, with an ability to generate/review engineering drawings for metal and composite parts and assemblies
  • Ability to scale a team, scale prototyping, scale production
  • Deep experience in manufacturing engineering and production challenges
  • Ability to lead a team to accomplish company goals in a fast pace, demanding, dynamic environment
  • Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing (proto-typing, OEE, equipment selection, DFM, 8D, CAD)
  • Critical problem-solving skills: ability to ask the right people, the right questions at the right time in the right way
  • Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000

Desired

  • Knowledge of FAA certification processes and the design of vehicle systems to formal requirements such as Part 23, 25, 27, or similar
  • Working knowledge of LEAN processes and practices
