We are seeking an experienced metrology engineer to join our team in developing electric-powered autonomous aircraft. You are efficient in the office and on the shop floor, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You have experience operating a wide range of metrology equipment, which could include laser trackers, CMMs, and hand tools. You are well organized, with strong written skills, and are able to create and maintain work instructions and scheduling tasks. You will be responsible for creating certification plans and recertification intervals for tooling and production equipment. You have a background in training and leading small teams of engineers and technicians. Finally, you are excited by the prospect of playing a major role in the development of the next generation of human mobility.

Within 3 months you will

  • Get to know the team
  • Shadow design engineers, technicians, and other manufacturing engineers
  • Support manufacturing-related activities, both internal and outsourced
  • Become familiar with internal equipment and standards
  • Learn how to use our CAD and PLM tools

Within 6 months you will

  • Continue learning about the aircraft and subsystem assemblies
  • Take ownership of new manufacturing/metrology projects
  • Advise engineers on metrology-related requirements for drawings and production
  • Purchase and implement new equipment
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services

Within 12 months you will

  • Reach a high level of familiarity with the aircraft
  • Partner with tooling, quality, and production engineers to develop measurement and certification plans
  • Take ownership of metrology standards and train technicians and engineers on its use
  • Improve tools by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing methods and equipment

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field, or similar experience
  • 8+ yrs in manufacturing or quality (education can supplement experience)
  • 3+ yrs metrology experience in an aerospace or high-rate environment
  • Comfortable working with others to create new solutions to problems, as opposed to applying tried methods
  • Proficient understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018 preferred); able to interpret, correct, and create engineering drawings
  • Able to work with and advise cross-functional teams of engineers and technicians
  • Written skills to create Tooling Operation Manuals (TOM) or Statement of Work (SOW) for strategic partners that design & build
  • Background designing and implementing measurement aids such as vector bars
  • Hands-on tooling design and installation background
  • Proficient in designing and qualifying the reference system (e.g. FRS) used for equipment setting
  • Able to train engineers and technicians on basic equipment and software operations
  • Comfortable assembling and leading a team of field technicians
  • Understanding of thermal compensation for large assembly jigs
  • Must be able to easily access our shop in Mountain View, CA, and be open to eventual relocation to our final production facility
  • Willing to travel to supplier sites to evaluate that tooling and equipment production meets Wisk requirements

Desired

  • CMS Level 1+ or other metrology certification
  • 3+ yrs experience programming metrology software (e.g. Spatial Analyzer, Polyworks, Verisurf)
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing; streamlining inspection processes and schedules to reduce production equipment downtime
  • Experience with volumetric compensation of machine tools
