**Summary: **
Located in Menlo Park, CA, we are seeking a talented and highly motivated
Clinical Lab Associate to join our Operations Team. Under the direction of the
Laboratory Manager, the successful candidate will help grow the Extractions
Team. You will participate in the daily activities of the laboratory in order
to effectively maximize turnaround time, equipment, and material utilization
within budgetary constraints while adhering to quality technical standards.
Primary responsibilities will be performing and assisting in laboratory tests,
processes and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating
procedures. Candidates for this position should be highly motivated, a team
player, and able to thrive in a high-throughput operations environment.
**Responsibilities: **
- Receive and process laboratory samples following standard procedures with great attention to detail
- Perform nucleic acid extraction and purification manually and/ or on automated platforms from different sample types
- Quality control of incoming material and extracted DNA and RNA
- Perform data analysis, provide timely reports, and data transfer to other Operations teams
- Responsible for sample management and entering and verifying data into the LIMS database
- Participate in troubleshooting and resolving technical and non-technical issues
- Escalates issues to a supervisor when problems arise with sample processing
- Assist with training of new laboratory personnel and training of new procedures with existing lab personnel
- Participate in tech transfer and protocol/ document revision
- Maintain appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and meet established budgetary and quality goals
- Follows GLP (good laboratory practice) in the use and handling of laboratory materials and equipment to maintain a compliant, safe, clean, and orderly working environment
- Support and ensure compliance with the laboratory’s quality control procedures and policies.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
- Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
- Demonstrate commitment to quality and continuous improvement
- Use effective two-way communication and participate in general laboratory meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned
**Education and Experience: **
- BA/BS in a biological discipline
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience
- Experience with lab automation systems preferred
- Must have working knowledge of techniques for manipulation of RNA and DNA
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative processes (e.g Tapestation, Qubit, Lunatic)
- Strong communication skills - able to clearly and timely communicate problems, protocols, and results to colleagues, both in writing and verbally - and ability to keep complete and detailed records
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks with a high emphasis on quality
- Ability to analyze and solve basic problems
- Ability to work as part of a team within a highly collaborative environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Flexible and adaptive in a frequently changing environment
- Desire to learn new skills and grow his/her knowledge of next generation sequencing technologies
