Summary:

The Sr. Scientist, Assay R&D will work with a world-class, dynamic team of scientists, software engineers, assay developers, product managers, and clinicians applying our cutting-edge cancer and immuno-oncology solutions to plan, execute, analyze, and interpret impactful collaborative R&D projects. You will explore new technologies to develop and validate novel products to expand Personalis’ product portfolio. Your work will contribute to a new generation of genomics-based precision medicine products in immuno-oncology and cancer clinical trials, diagnostics, and therapeutics being used by pharma, biotech, hospitals and clinicians.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in NGS technologies and determine which ones can be used to improve and expand Personalis’ product portfolio.
  • Evaluate novel sequencing approaches and technologies at the raw data and application level.
  • Work with bioinformatics teams to plan experiments and analysis to validate novel procedures and analytics.
  • Work cross functionally with process development and operations teams to ensure smooth adoption of technologies.
  • Identify problems in current processes and come up with troubleshooting approaches and solutions.
  • Participate in meetings and present results.
  • Use effective two-way communication to create and maintain a collaborative working environment.
  • Support and ensure compliance with all department and company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D or MS with a minimum of 6 years of experience in molecular biology.
  • Requires a solid understanding of next generation sequencing technology and RNA/DNA manipulation.
  • Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience in NGS focused molecular biology and hands on sequencing experiment execution.
  • Passion for exploring new technologies and thinking creatively to solve problems.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to multitask and troubleshoot complex protocols.
  • Quantitative understanding of biochemical and physical chemistry processes is required.
  • Prior experience in cancer biology is strongly desired.
  • Data analysis skills with experience in Excel, JMP, R or Python.
