The Role

Pilot's Finance Operations team delivers bookkeeping of unparalleled quality to a portfolio of customers across a range of industries. In a nutshell, our Finance Operations team consists of accounting and finance experts with software superpowers who:

  • Deliver high-quality books efficiently to our customers
  • Delight customers with expert guidance and support
  • Manage customer deadlines and expectations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Work with our product and engineering teams to define and evolve our bookkeeping processes

As a Senior Manager on our Finance Operations team, you’ll focus your time on:

  • Developing members of your team to become highly effective people managers and individual contributors
  • Taking complete ownership over your team’s portfolio of customers, ensuring that your team delivers high quality financial statements on time every month
  • Engaging and improving in our recruiting processes to attract high-quality candidates to sustain Pilot’s continued growth and operations
  • Cultivating an environment of growth and mentorship to develop the leadership skills of senior team members and prepare them for people management or technical lead roles
  • Working with current managers to help maximize their abilities to drive positive outcomes and meet Company goals and objectives
  • Working cross-functionally with other Operations leaders to ensure a cohesive customer experience and helping your team build strong relationships across other Ops functions
  • Using your industry expertise to recommend process improvements to maximize accuracy and efficiency within our financial statement close process
  • Investigating accounting issues and collaborating with our Controller Services function to develop methodology based upon accounting principles
  • Setting clear expectations, providing continuous feedback, addressing underperformance, and recognizing the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
  • Developing a strategy and goals for your team. We are building for Pilot’s future accelerated growth and need someone who will set us up to scale
  • Monitoring changes in the standard operating procedures and updating documentation as needed
  • Implementing the standard operating procedures to ensure they are executed by staff at all levels

Role requirements

Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with a passion for and ability to grow and develop team members. Senior Managers on our Finance Operations team possess all of the following:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Accounting or equivalent
  • Required : 2+ years in public accounting and 10+ total years of work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A love of problem solving and making teams and processes more efficient
  • Delight in providing an exceptional customer experience
  • Preferred: Experience working in a service delivery model or organization
  • Proven experience in developing, mentoring, and leading managers
