About the Role:

Come and help us to build our customer platform and make an impact on Earth!

Planet monitors the Earth by observing the entire Earth everyday. The market for these insights is new and therefore requires engineering that embraces change as we establish product market fit. Customer platform engineers are focused on continuously improving the value we deliver to customers, increasing the market for the earth observation industry.

As a fullstack engineer, you will help customers by building the critical end- to-end applications that they need to use Planet’s products. Planet delivers imagery to our customers in many forms, including our APIs, our SDK, and our web apps.

In this role, you will be challenged to: build and evolve consumer products across our engineering stack (i.e., backend, APIs, frontend), contribute a sharp product and business sense to the team, and think big yet deliver value incrementally.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Work as an integral member of a cross-functional team focused on improving customer journeys such as:
    • Our trial program to give customers a sense of the value of Planet’s data
    • A self-service onboarding to ensure customers know how to use our product
    • An ordering and checkout process for data or imagery
    • Our web app experience to allow customers to intuitively search for and analyze imagery
  • Operate as a “glue” engineer to ensure backend and frontend stacks work well together to delight customers
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure our systems remain up 24/7

Senior applicants will:

  • Develop a vision and roadmap to improve our engineering stack
  • Help to sequence and de-risk projects to ensure timely delivery of value
  • Collaborate with product and other cross-functional stakeholders to co-create an impactful customer experience.

What You Bring:

Experience in:

  • Python, Go, Node, PostGreSQL
  • Javascript, React, Material UI
  • Designing and evolving public APIs
  • Working in cross-functional teams that put customer requirements first
  • Adaptability and openness to changes and challenges
  • A positive, can-do attitude to work

Senior applicants will also have:

  • Clear communication skills that resonate with engineers, cross functional stakeholders, and executives
  • A track record of designing, building, and evolving software systems at scale
  • Passion for improving developer velocity
  • A track record of mentorship and growing other engineers

What Makes You Stand Out:

Experience in:

  • Kubernetes (k8s)
  • Geospatial experience (GDAL, OGR, etc.)
  • API documentation and written communication
  • Oncall experience
