What you’ll do
As Employment Counsel, you will play a crucial role on the legal team in
providing legal guidance regarding various employee relations matters. Your
expertise in employment law and extensive knowledge of relevant regulations
will enable you to advise on employee-related issues, disputes, and compliance
matters. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this part-time position allows
you to work on a flexible schedule while assisting the business in maintaining
fair and legally compliant workplace environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance on all aspects of employment law, including, but not limited to, hiring, recruiting, termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, leave and disability accommodation, workers compensation, non-competition, employee benefits and other employment related issues.
- Monitor developments to legislation, regulation, case law, and government enforcement activities relating to employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice to relevant stakeholders.
- Provide legal guidance on employment and labor issues.
- Advise on and participate in the resolution of employment-related disputes and investigations, including coordinating with outside counsel throughout DV’s global footprint.
- Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of workplace misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or other violations of company policies or laws.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, policies, and procedures.
- Support the Legal team, HR and other internal stakeholders by handling compliance, employee issues, internal investigations, audits, pre-dispute conflicts and labor matters.
- Review and analyze employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements, non-compete clauses, and other legal documents related to employee relations.
- In case of legal proceedings, provide legal representation and support to the organization, either in-house or in collaboration with external legal counsel.
- Identify potential legal risks related to employee relations and propose proactive measures to mitigate such risks.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US State Bar
- 5 plus years of employment law experience in private practice with a highly regarded firm and/or a corporate legal department.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Broad experience and knowledge across a range of employment matters, including, but not limited to, employment agreements, EEOC, ADA, FMLA, workers' compensation, wage and hour laws, immigration, employee benefits, employment policies and procedures, performance management, disputes, terminations and hiring practices.
- Ability to provide practical legal advice tailored to the client business and legal support on multi-jurisdictional issues/projects.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal issues and communicate actionable advice for non-legal professionals.
- Flexible, well-organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced technology environment with time management and organizational skills to manage a part-time workload effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough investigations and handle sensitive employee-related matters with tact and discretion.
- Provide ethical leadership and sound judgment.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on a
number of non-discriminating factors, including qualifications for the role,
level, skills, experience, location, and balancing internal equity relative to
peers at DV.
The estimated salary range for this role based on the qualifications set forth
in the job description is between $100,000 - $150,000. This role will also be
eligible for bonus and equity.
