At Pattern Bioscience, we’re tackling antibiotic resistance, one of the biggest public health challenges of our time. Our technology rapidly identifies bacterial infections and predicts the most effective antibiotics to treat the infection. We’re building direct-from-specimen phenotypic rapid ID/AST assays using live cells on our proprietary instrument and consumable platform.

We are looking for a teammate, a problem solver, someone who is persistent, passionate, and loves to see projects to completion. As a Product Development Engineer, you will join our Instrument team and bring your knowledge of new product development to support and lead efforts as we transition our diagnostic device from development to production. You will have the opportunity to participate in the development of novel products at the forefront of the clinical diagnostic device industry with the goal of improving clinical outcomes of patients around the globe.

Goals

  • Facilitate bring-up, deployment, and management of beta instrument prototypes at pre-clinical evaluation and clinical trial sites
  • Design and perform device verification test protocols in support of Systems Engineering for regulatory submissions
  • Complete product testing in preparation for and in support of product certifications

How You Will Contribute

  • Collaborate with design team to identify product improvement opportunities based on data collected from prototype diagnostic devices
  • Support development of system requirements and design concepts for current and future products
  • Support integration of software and hardware features into the diagnostic platform
  • Collect and analyze data for verification testing, reliability testing, and cost reductions studies
  • Develop manufacturing fixtures, methods, and performance test procedures
  • Produce documentation for engineering change orders and for regulatory submissions
  • Support device bring-up and maintenance of diagnostic devices used at clinical trial sites

Desired Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Biomedical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering.
  • 2-6 years of experience in new product development
  • Experience working in Python or equivalent scripting language
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g. machining and injection molding)
  • Knowledge of product development techniques (e.g. DOE, DFM, and FMEA)

A Plus if You Have the Following

  • MS in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with optical and/or thermal system development
  • Experience with Altium or PCBA design tool
  • Experience working within a regulated industry, especially FDA
  • Experience bringing a product through a 510(k) submission process

This role is full-time, non-contract, onsite in Austin, TX.
