At Pattern Bioscience, we’re tackling antibiotic resistance, one of the biggest public health challenges of our time. Our technology rapidly identifies bacterial infections and predicts the most effective antibiotics to treat the infection. We’re building direct-from-specimen phenotypic rapid ID/AST assays using live cells on our proprietary instrument and consumable platform.

We are looking for an Assay Development Scientist to contribute to post- feasibility development efforts of our assays including verification, validation, analytical studies, and design transfer activities. In our current stage, you will also be part of building the Product Development team through mentoring less experienced Associate Scientists and Research Associates. You will work closely with many other teams including Assay Research, Clinical, Integration, and Manufacturing. Through your work, you will be a key member in the future development and commercialization efforts of our organization.

Initial Goals

  • Contribute to laboratory and documentation efforts to ready launch assay for clinical trials
  • Own experiments related to design transfer, verification, and validation of our lead assay
  • Guide and execute GLP studies, in partnership with our Microbiology team, for our lead assay

How You Will Contribute

  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and analyze experiments in a BSL-2 lab in support of optimizing assays
  • Use data and analysis to support scientific decisions and to communicate to adjacent teams and upward
  • Guide assay reagent optimization
  • Support Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical teams with design control documentation

Desired Education & Experience

  • Ph.D. with 1+ years; M.S. with 3+ years; or B.S. with 5+ years in assay research & development under design control. Degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or other related scientific discipline
  • Experience with assay product lifecycle including supporting a pre-sub or 510(k) submission and/or commercialization of one or more assays
  • Experience with analytical studies, statistical methods for assay development, process development, guard-band testing, and protocol and report writing for assays
  • Experience with implementing GLP practices, FDA audits, and 21 CFR 820
