Tax Principal at GCM Grosvenor | Powderkeg

SUMMARY

The Principal role on the Corporate Tax team works closely with our Corporate Finance department and service providers to manage all tax compliance and tax accounting aspects of the company’s operating businesses as well as the parent, publicly-traded company, GCM Grosvenor Inc. (NASDAQ ticker “GCMG”). Additionally, the Principal will provide similar duties from time to time for private markets funds. The Principal should enjoy and thrive in working across a broad spectrum of tax disciplines, including tax provision/ASC 740, partnership, non-U.S. subsidiaries, state and local, compensation, and transfer pricing.

**RESPONSIBILITIES **

  • Manage relationships and workflow with service providers with significant focus on quality control, risk management, organization and completeness.
  • Monitor, track, and maintain tax compliance for all operating entities, including Federal, state, and foreign tax filings.
  • On a quarterly basis, work closely with the Executive Director - Tax Accounting, to prepare tax provision package and accounting entries for the company’s 10-Q and 10-K filings. On an interim basis, assist in tax cash flow planning and forecasting for GCM Grosvenor, Inc.
  • Research tax issues and communicate tax developments to management team.
  • Interact with Fund Tax team to receive and report estimated and final K-1 information for inclusion in operating business tax calculations.
  • Oversee tax planning and compliance for management holding companies.
  • Prepare tax workpapers and review tax deliverables with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Work collaboratively with team members utilizing a team approach to manage the group’s responsibilities.
  • Manage tax compliance for certain entities in the private markets industry, as needed.
  • Participate in tax planning and provide operational support for inorganic opportunities, as applicable.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS in Accounting with outstanding academic credentials (minimum 3.5 GPA); CPA preferred.
  • Eight to thirteen years of total experience, including at least 4 years working for a public accounting firm (Big Four preferred). Experience overseeing tax compliance for operating businesses highly preferred.
  • Ability to organize and balance multiple concurrent projects. Strong project management skills are required.
  • Experience with ASC 740 and tax provisions for C Corporations is required. Experience with Up-C Structures and Tax Receivable Agreements is a plus.
  • Knowledge in Subchapter K tax concepts, including Sec. 754 elections and partnership basis calculations.
  • Experience with hedge funds and private equity funds is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with stock compensation rules a plus but not required.
  • Candidate should enjoy learning about and working across multiple tax disciplines, including tax accounting, corporate and partnership tax, state and local, and foreign tax.
  • Strong technology skills related to Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
  • Individual should be a strong team player with the ability to think and work independently while still collaborating with others effectively.
  • Detail oriented with a proven focus on controls and managing risk.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
