The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Controller who is energized by the prospect of continuing to build and improve the financial accounting function at a growth company. In partnership with the CFO, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of activities, including the close process, audits, reporting packages, ERP implementation, team development, and a variety of financial analyses and special projects. With the backing of The Riverside Company, Buildout has acquired four companies over the last three years and the Controller will help integrate and improve the processes in the accounting department.

How You’ll Contribute at Buildout

  • You’ll be responsible for all aspects of accounting (AP/AR, billing, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation, credit card expense report reconciliation, cash applications, collections)
  • Analyze and revise existing accounting processes to streamline operations and develop and document any new processes and accounting policies as needed
  • Manage the completion of the month-end and year-end close processes for five entities, including working with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance
  • Conduct financial statement analysis and make appropriate recommendations to CFO and Director of Finance
  • Oversee and manage the implementation of the remaining four companys’ ERP to Sage Intacct, using expert project management skills and driving this through completion
  • Manage and develop department team of 6, leading by example, creating efficiency through resource allocation, and driving results
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Understand and implement technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Provide support to the payroll processing function
  • Additional accounting duties/special projects as necessary

**What You’ll Bring to Buildout **

  • 8+ years relevant accounting experience with increasing roles of responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent
  • Experience in Sage Intacct and implementation HIGHLY preferred
  • Experience with ERP administration and module implementation
  • Experience leading and coaching team members, and a desire to grow as an emotionally intelligent people manager
  • A proactive problem solver with a knack for project management and implementing scalable systems
  • Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes
  • Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
  • CPA, MS Acct and/or MBA credentials are nice to have but not required

We are based in Chicago, but this is a remote-friendly role. We’re prioritizing candidates who can work Central Time Zone hours. The targeted compensation for this position is $110,000 - $130,000.
