Summary:
Age of Learning is seeking a full-time Game Designer to add to our in-house
development team. This role will be responsible for designing engaging,
educational game experiences that enhance learning outcomes across web and
mobile platforms. The ideal candidate will have expertise in game design
principles, user experience (UX) design, and interactive digital content
development. You will use live analytics and onsite user tests to design and
recommend game features, tune systems, and balance the game as it grows. Tasks
include developing initial concepts, working with the product owner and
stakeholders to ensure adherence to the product’s vision, providing clear
documentation to the production team and evaluating the game’s performance
from live data (engagement and retention). You will collaborate with cross-
functional teams to create compelling educational games that captivate and
motivate learners of all ages. The position requires a high attention to
detail and the ability to react to the needs of creating a fun game experience
that keeps kids coming back.
Responsibilities:
- Drive game feature design through all production phases-from concept to implementation, and finally to release
- Design and develop engaging and effective game mechanics, systems and content
- Define and document game design specifications, wireframes, storyboards, and prototypes
- Work closely with data analysts to interpret live data and recommend feature/system adjustments
- Work closely with user research team to conduct and evaluate user tests to iterate and improve game experiences based on user feedback and learning effectiveness
- Ensure that game interfaces and interactions support intuitive and accessible user experiences
- Collaborate with artists and developers to implement high-quality visuals and interactions that enhance engagement
- Contribute creative ideas for new educational games and features that drive engagement and learning retention
- Optimize game performance across multiple platforms, ensuring a seamless user experience
- Review game builds and provide notes to internal and external production teams
Required Qualifications:
- Game design experience on web and mobile projects, with a focus on engagement mechanics, reward loops, retention strategies, etc.
- Experience in a Product Owner role, including defining the requirements and goals, managing stakeholder expectations, and ensuring alignment between product vision and development
- A passion for creating high-quality games that educate and entertain children
- A deep knowledge and understanding of current trends and use in all areas of gaming (i.e., mobile, browser, social, etc.)
- Strong creative and editorial skills
- Ability to understand technical parameters as they apply to design implementations
- Work well within cross-functional teams, including educators, marketing, etc.
- Passion for technology and game development, with a dedication to and desire for perfection
- Ability to learn quickly on the job
- Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work independently
- Ability to speak comfortably and professionally with technical and non-technical team members
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience as a Designer
- Experience designing educational games
- Knowledge of common game industry practices
- Knowledge of contemporary children's' media, especially games
- Familiarity with data-driven design and analytics tools to measure learning impact
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
