The Problems You'll Solve
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Web Engineering Manager to
lead our web development team for Carta.com (marketing
site). As the Senior Web Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for
overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of our web marketing
platforms, ensuring they are performant, scalable, and user-friendly. You will
need to be hands-on for about 20% of your time. You will work closely with
cross-functional marketing teams to drive innovation, deliver high-quality
products, and elevate the overall web experience for our users. As a Senior
Web Engineering Manager, you’ll work to:
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for our web platforms, aligning with business goals and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions, user stories, and project plans.
- Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and development methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code.
- Oversee the implementation of responsive web designs, ensuring compatibility across browsers, devices, and screen sizes.
- Manage the full development lifecycle, from planning and estimation to development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Continuously monitor and optimize web performance, scalability, and reliability, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance user experience.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and industry developments, evaluating their potential impact on our web platforms and recommending innovative solutions.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the web engineering team, encouraging knowledge sharing, skill-building, and career growth opportunities.
The Team You'll Work With
You will be part of the Marketing Web organization. This team is the tip of
the spear for new revenue generation and growing Carta’s brand presence. We
have teammates across the country who love spreading the word about Carta.
Members of our team have created and sold TV shows in Hollywood, been on the
floor of Congress during the financial crisis, written political speeches
heard by thousands, and led the rebrand of Carta.
About You
Carta’s website is a representation of why we exist as well as one of our most
effective lead generation tools. You will be responsible for creating the
world’s window into what we do, carta.com, as well as creating a seamless,
joyful, and educational journey for prospects. To that end, your major focus
will be on making Carta’s Web Presence, starting with carta.com, the best in
the business.
- You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years in a leadership or management role with 6+ years of experience in web development recommended.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing high-performing web development teams in fast-paced, agile environments.
- Strong technical proficiency in web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend libraries like Svelte or React (we use Svelte), as well as frameworks built on top of these, such as SvelteKit or Next.js (we use SvelteKit).
- Experience with backend technologies and frameworks, specifically PHP and Node.js.
- Extensive experience with content management systems, including both WordPress and Contentful. Demonstrated proficiency in their architectures and functionalities, as well as strong expertise in using GraphQL for querying and managing content.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform, and experience with version control systems, specifically GitHub.
- Experience managing front-end CI/CD pipelines, especially using Github Actions, Netlify, and Cypress
- Deep understanding of web architecture, design patterns, and best practices for building scalable, performant, and secure web applications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on driving results, overcoming challenges, and delivering impactful solutions.
- Passion for technology, innovation, and continuous improvement, with a commitment to staying current with emerging trends and advancements in web development.
- You are willing and capable of getting in the trenches alongside your reports. You lead by example, and take pride in your work.
- You have experience planning technical roadmaps, and understand how and when to advocate for that work to happen while managing stakeholder requests.
Salary
Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for
all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles,
commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if
applicable) range for this role is:
- $240,000 - $300,000 in San Francisco, CA
- $240,000 - $300,000 in New York, NY
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate
experience and expertise, and other factors.
