This position sits in the DevOps team, functioning as a subject matter expert in storage, database, datastream, and indexing concerns. As a member of the DevOps team, this engineer will work closely with stakeholders to cover these needs. They will work closely with the development team to meet core requirements, within the DevOps team to manage its cloud computing resources, and with the SRE team to provide and monitor key metrics. They also will have to work closely with vendors for managing change management/maintenance and maintenance concerns.

As this role will be the domain expert in storage, databases, data streaming, and indexing, they will have to evaluate technologies and features to meet our needs in these areas.

As this role will also have regular DevOps responsibilities, strong Linux and networking fundamentals are a big plus.

This is a full-time position that can be remote from any location.

Responsibilities

• The go-to person on data-as-a-service, including capacity planning, design, query optimization, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with Dev Team on data platform engineering
• Be accountable for the direct relationship with AWS on data storage facilities
• Collaborate internally with our data storage needs, provide recommendations and execution
• Cover capacity management & planning; analyze our usage and get the service ready for growth
• Monitor the state of our data storage deployment and provide first line support
• Setup and advocate monitoring metrics
• Manage the daily operation and lifecycle of our data storage resources
• Housekeeping and documentation of our data storage deployments

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience of database administration and design experience (as a Developer, SysAdmin, DBA, or DevOps engineer)
• Knowledge of SQL
• Experience in managing / administering database cluster in a corporate environment
• Experience in high throughput systems, preferably in finance / banking industry
• Strong knowledge on management of various database technologies
• Cloud experience, particularly in AWS, is a big plus
• Must be able to work independently and make sound technical decisions
• Expertise with at least one RDBMS engine and one NoSQL engine
• Basic understanding of how databases work internally
• Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining highly available databases, especially MySQL or PostgreSQL in production environments
• Ability to interact with databases via command line, such as mysql and postgres clients
