About The Role
Risk Engineering at Coalition is about finding ways to help our clients solve
cyber risk. We are looking for an experienced cyber and technology E&O
underwriter ready to step into a leadership role. This position is a mix of
team leadership and individual underwriting as noted below. While the
position is remote, we prefer candidates located in the Eastern US, especially
in or easily able to reach cities with our major trading partners (Atlanta,
Boston, New York).
Leadership Responsibilities (75%)
- Manage a team of Risk Engineers with varying levels of experience including employ selection, professional development and performance management
- Provide regular 1:1 guidance to team members including feedback on compliance with guidelines, underwriting judgment, commercial judgment and file documentation based on regular file reviews
- Partner with Business Development and Production Underwriting leaders in assigned territory to manage relationships with key trading partners and achieve both loss ratio and growth goals
- Provide training and subject matter expertise to the entire Risk Engineering team on assigned subjects
- Demonstrate and reinforce our core values of Character, Humility, Responsibility, Purpose, Authenticity and Diversity in daily job performance
- Adjust work assignments to optimize performance against established SLA’s and ensure reasonable workloads for all team members
- Work with other Risk Engineering leaders in the management of the overall SME portfolio and the balance of work among the teams
- Collaborate with Actuarial, Data, Claim, CIR, Engineering, Product and Security teams to improve the management of SME risks via new or amended policy language, underwriting guidelines, business rules and practices, etc.
- Work with the Business Development and Programs team to evaluate affinity opportunities and develop coverage, pricing and service offerings for them
Individual Contributor Responsibilities (25%)
- Analytically research policyholders and risks as needed
- Eloquently manage relationships with insurance brokers to negotiate pricing, coverages and other terms
- Create new and maintain current processes for renewal business to meet our customer service standards
- Actively participate in determining our approach to emerging threats, loss trends, marketplace changes and other trends in cyber and technology risks
- Keep an avid pulse on cyber and technology marketplaces and trends in the industry
- Easily identify areas where our unique capabilities provide us with a competitive advantage and build out processes that support these
- Partner with Customer Success and Engineering teams to continually improve our technology and broker experiences
- Work alongside the Business Development team to support their goals and strengthen partnerships with brokers
- Collaborate with Security Engineers to review cyber and tech E&O accounts for risk acceptability
- Serve as a subject matter expert for team on coverage matter and endorsement drafting
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional work experience with demonstrated success in underwriting cyber and tech primary and excess business
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and train less experienced underwriters
- Track record of productive cross team collaboration
- Experience handling a high volume of business
- Self-motivated; entrepreneurial spirit
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written)
- Aptitude to learn technical concepts/terms
Bonus Points
- Existing relationships with broker partners in the Northeast or Southeast territories
- Prior management experience
- Prior technical leadership/subject matter expertise experience
- Technical background in engineering, computer science, or MIS a plus
