Guidewire's development team is looking for a smart, proactive, and results- oriented Senior Database Performance Engineer to design databases for, measure performance of, troubleshoot and optimize our software solutions. You will have the opportunity to make an impact and contribute to a sophisticated application suite of software products for the property & casualty insurance industry that generate over 500 million dollars of revenue annually, mission- critical to 100+ enterprises serving more than a million users.

Our SaaS offerings support large-scale data volumes, heavy server load, and complex business logic running in the cloud. Our teams are lean, empowered, and collaborative. You'll work alongside intelligent colleagues who've checked their egos at the door.

Successful Senior Database Engineers at Guidewire typically have:

  • Hands-on experience designing and optimizing relational databases in the context of a Java application.
  • Expertise in SQL query tuning.
  • Curiosity and internal motivation to discover multiple root causes to complex technical problems.
  • Excellent communication skills: speak your mind and defend ideas based on merit, yet humility and hunger to learn from others.

Key technical qualifications include experience with:

  • Two or more relational databases: Aurora Postgres, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server
  • Identifying application, database, and system metrics for analyzing and benchmarking performance
  • Database performance monitoring tools (SolarWinds DPA, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Performance Insights)
  • Analyzing performance using AWR and/or DMV
  • One or more cloud services (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud)
  • Mentoring engineers on performance problem resolution and best practices.
