Embark Trucks is America's Longest-Running Self-Driving Truck Program and is bringing autonomous freight mainstream. As covered by the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Forbes, TechCrunch and and other outlets, Embark went public via a $5 billion SPAC deal in November 2021, and is listed on Nasdaq under the symbol EMBK. Embark is headquartered in San Francisco, CA with operations centers in Fontana, CA and Houston, TX, moving freight daily using our purpose-built transfer hubs. Embark has aligned itself with [truck manufacturers](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/embark-universal- interface-accelerates-integration-of-self-driving-technology-across-major- truck-oem-platforms-301259787.html), shippers, and carriers to integrate our technology into the freight ecosystem, pursuing a [business model](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/embark-launches-partner- development-program-to-bring-embark-driver-to- market-301264418.html#::text=Embark%20launches%20its%20Partnership%20Development,on%20select%20US%20freight%20lanes.) where fleets own and operate Embark trucks. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous vehicles and our team is looking to grow.

Managing a fleet of self-driving trucks requires a sophisticated control center with real-time monitoring and the ability to intervene as our vehicles move freight across the country. Embark Guardian is our family of products to meet this need, and the newly-created Guardian team is responsible for all of the components that let us interact with vehicles before, during, and after trips. This includes live streaming video, monitoring sensor data, and sending commands back to the vehicle.

Building and scaling these mission-critical systems requires a wide range of software engineering skills coupled with attention to detail, passion for helping teammates and sharing knowledge, and curiosity to learn new cutting edge technologies to get the job done.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Work across codebases and components to support real-time communication and low-latency streaming of sensor data.
  • Understand the range of users who need to monitor our vehicles, and build data pipelines to support their work.
  • Share knowledge with teammates and help mentor junior engineers.
  • Measure performance across the stack, from network reliability (we operate in many areas of poor LTE coverage) to CPU usage (which is constrained on-vehicle), and find opportunities to optimize throughput and reliability.
  • Infuse our culture of safety into the systems you build through detailed analysis of failure modes.
  • Work collaboratively with product managers, operations staff, and other engineers to explain your findings and deploy changes across the fleet.

Your Experience Might Include

  • Significant past work in Python or Go
  • Understanding constraints and challenges when designing REST APIs
  • Building and supporting real-time web applications, such as experience building with pub/sub systems or with WebSockets
