We are a San Francisco-based team building self-driving semi-trucks. We have raised $117MM in total and are backed by Tiger Global Management ($70MM Series C) and Sequoia Capital ($30MM Series B). We move freight daily between LA and Phoenix using our purpose-built transfer hubs. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous driving and our team is looking to grow.

Embark’s Autonomous Vehicle Frameworks team works on the structure around the core artificial intelligence algorithms that are running live on our trucks. The AV Frameworks team is tasked with setting standards for what runs live on the autonomous vehicle and developing the software to help us achieve, maintain, and enforce those standards. As a Senior Systems Software Engineer you will build and maintain software that runs on the autonomous vehicle and ensure that it can execute and communicate safely and efficiently on our trucks.

Responsibilities:

• Build software to help us define, improve, and understand the timing characteristics and the flow of information through our autonomous system
• Design safety-critical, highly-performant, and well-tested common libraries to enable the rest of the autonomy stack to perform well
• Work with other teams to define and improve system-wide compute budgets, build software to enforce and maintain compute budgets
• Develop tooling for monitoring autonomous vehicle software safety and reliability
• Work with other teams to restructure code to improve build times and module-level performance in key areas
• Own the development of safety-critical software on RTOS systems

Experience should include:

• Language expertise in modern C++ (C++11 and higher)
• Building complex production-quality software in a Linux environment

Preferred experience:

• Experience working in robotics or other high-performance or safety-critical software systems, such as autonomous vehicles, aerospace, high-frequency trading, or video game development
• Fluency in python
• Interprocess communication, shared memory, RPC, and network APIs
• Leading teams and projects
