As the Thermal Engineer at Embark, you will play a critical role in our ability to commercialize the Embark Driver. You will be the subject matter expert for all things related to the thermal system design across a range of complex electronic components, including high-power compute modules, embedded ECUs, and a variety of sensors. A successful individual in this role is an enthusiastic problem solver, proactive communicator, team oriented, and exhibits strong follow through.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical and thermal design and development for complex electronic systems, utilizing first order calculations as well as CFD tools
  • Design and validate systems and subsystems to meet program objectives
  • Participate in the cross-functional design process working with other HW and SW team members to develop optimized integrated solutions
  • Conduct failure analysis and solution validation for product development and fleet systems
  • Developing detailed thermal models to provide design feedback and component requirements
  • Analyzing simulation and measurement results to correlate models
  • Designing convective thermal solutions including fans, heatsinks, and vapor chambers, along with conductive thermal solutions including TIMs and TECs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in the electronics design industry with a track record of production thermal designs
  • 2+ years of experience working on thermal solutions for autonomous vehicles preferred
  • Proficient with CFD packages such as Flotherm, Icepak, FloEFD
  • Experience with prototyping and high volume manufacturing of thermal components
  • Good organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Strong desire to be hands on. You are just as comfortable with a wrench as a keyboard
  • Great communication skills. You have experience writing clear, concise, and detailed documentation. You are skilled in leading and participating in cross-functional design reviews
