Embark Trucks is America's Longest-Running Self-Driving Truck Program and is bringing autonomous freight mainstream. As covered by the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Forbes, TechCrunch and and other outlets, Embark went public via a $5 billion SPAC deal in November 2021, and is listed on Nasdaq under the symbol EMBK. Embark is headquartered in San Francisco, CA with operations centers in Fontana, CA and Houston, TX, moving freight daily using our purpose-built transfer hubs. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous vehicles and our team is looking to grow.

Managing a fleet of self-driving trucks requires a sophisticated control center with real-time monitoring and the ability to intervene as our vehicles move freight across the country. Embark Guardian is our family of products to meet this need, and the newly-created Guardian team is responsible for all of the components that let us interact with vehicles before, during, and after trips. This includes live streaming video, monitoring sensor data, and sending commands back to the vehicle.

Remote assist and teleoperation are a key component of this control center task. When a driverless vehicle encounters trouble, we need a reliable way for humans to intervene, even if the vehicle is in a remote area with limited connectivity. We are looking for enthusiastic engineers to build out and scale our remote assist capability, bringing a keen eye for detail, passion for helping teammates and sharing knowledge, and curiosity to learn new cutting edge technologies to get the job done.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and build interfaces for human operators to remotely drive our vehicles.
  • Write on-vehicle code with C++ and ROS that interacts with the rest of our AV stack.
  • Experiment with different network configurations to optimize performance in areas of poor LTE reception.
  • Infuse our culture of safety into the systems you build through detailed analysis of failure modes.
  • Share knowledge with teammates and help mentor junior engineers.
  • Work collaboratively with product managers, operations staff, and other engineers to deploy changes across the fleet.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with remote vehicle control in previous roles
  • A deep understanding of networking fundamentals, experience optimizing low-latency systems, and experience working with unreliable connections
  • Experience in multiplayer gaming or video streaming is a bonus
