Job Summary:
ERI is seeking a qualified candidate for an immediate full-time job opening
for the position of Principal Engineer/Sr. Mechanical Engineer, reporting to
the Director of System design and reliability inside the R&D department in San
Leandro, CA or Houston, TX facility. The R&D department is a dynamic group of
engineers and technicians with a wide range of backgrounds. We are looking for
talented and energetic candidates who thrive in a team environment. The
candidate will work in multidisciplinary teams on clean-sheet designs to
develop disruptive technologies based on our proprietary isobaric pressure
exchanges. This position’s two main responsibilities are data analysis of
experimentally obtain data from in-house test loops and external test programs
and system and controls modeling of purposed applications of our pressure
exchanger technologies.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis using Matlab or similar software. Bring technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of the collected data, then process and present it in ways that help the group make better decisions.
- System and controls modeling and analysis to drive testing, systems integration, and design decisions.
- Participation in the entire design cycle of turbomachinery hardware including conceptual design, sizing of turbomachinery components, design/selection of rotor-bearing systems and secondary flow paths, instrumentation, controls & data acquisition, and development testing.
- Perform numerical analysis (FEA) to optimize mechanical design for strength, fatigue, reliability and robustness.
- Designing, building and validating new test rigs and flow loops to perform experimental research and development on turbomachinery equipment, including instrumentation, data acquisition, post processing, generating insights and reporting to management.
- Validate designs against in-house test data and/or published work. Coordinate with test engineers in the team to obtain high quality validation test data.
- Works with customer as required throughout project cycle to develop specifications and validate system performance.

Skills & Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years relevant experience or Ph. D in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with Matlab or similar softwares to do data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with test instrumentation (Pressure Transducers, Flow Meter, Proximity Probe, Accelerometer, etc…), and data acquisition (e.g. LabVIEW programing).
- Familiarity with pump and turbine mechanical/hydraulic design, highly preferred.
- Demonstrated skills utilizing CAD modeling (Solidworks) for design, generating drawings/layouts as well as GD&T.
- Proficiency with using commercial FEA/CFD packages like ANSYS CFX/Fluent required.
- Experience with test instrumentation (Pressure Transducers, Flow Meter, Proximity Probe, Accelerometer, etc…), and data acquisition (e.g. LabVIEW programing).
- Experience with reliability analysis of components/systems, a plus.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and be goal oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Position requires up to 10% domestic & international travel.
