Exploding Kittens is seeking to hire a driven, agile, and technically strong
Accounting Manager who is passionate about accounting operations and
driving process improvements. This role requires excellent communication,
strong knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP, organization, and
ability to manage and work with various cross-functional teams. In this role
you will lead in key operational processes and systems including billing,
procurement, revenue, operating expenses, monthly close, and financials and
will report to the Director of Accounting.
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:
- Perform and review the general accounting function, which includes, cash management and reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet management (including inventory related items) and royalty and commission management
- Perform and review the accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) transactional functions: Customer invoicing, credit memos, deductions, chargebacks, cash receipt applications, vendor invoicing, cash disbursements, accounts receivable aging, and accounts payable aging
- Perform and review the month, quarter, and year-end close procedures, including the proper closing of the AR and AP subledgers, recording of accruals, review and posting of journal entries
- Perform and review account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, analysis of results, close calendar, and close reporting package
- Perform and review the quarterly royalty and commissions process
- Liaise with FP&A and business partners to generate, record, reconcile, and maintain accrual balances and monthly budget versus actual analyses
- Assist in the proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules; Review of revenue streams/contracts and its terms for changes needed and determination of proper timing of revenue recognition
- Ensure that company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and GAAP Assist in external audits of company financial records and the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from audit findings
- Assist in the compliance for Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation; assist in compliance for international VAT/GST reporting requirements
- Assist in the identification, selection and implementation of appropriate accounting and internal control policies and procedures and process improvements
- Collaborate across departments to improve controls that impact financial reporting including refining processes, policies, procedures, documentation, and information systems
- Lead, coach, mentor and train the team; take an active interest in their career and development and find ways to continue their growth and development
WHAT WE NEED:
- 5 - 10 years of relevant accounting experience
- A BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required; CPA is a plus
- Experience leading accounting operations, monthly accounting close, and preparation of financial reports
- Demonstrated ability for attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong leadership skills are required
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
- Ability to leverage technology to build scalable processes, gain efficiencies, streamline accounting operations, and improve outcomes
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
