As a Sr Manager of Software Engineering, you will help mentor and guide a growing engineering team. In this role, we are looking for a dedicated individual with experience in leading others, translating complex requirements to solutions, data engineering within an analytics context, developing algorithmic processes for automation, service frameworks and application development with a full stack understanding. This individual is also expected to operate in agile, high pace and test-driven development.
Responsibilities
•Establish partnerships with stakeholders to develop an understanding of their needs and long-term vision
•Provide solution oversight for engineers, analysts and administrators including architecture, design collaboration, code reviews and prioritization of work
•Take ownership of products and solutions from conception to delivery, remaining innovative thereafter with a continued emphasis on enhancements
•Hands-on contribution to the development of applications, underlying Infrastructure and Tools
•Call upon software engineering experience to bring outside-the-box thinking to data engineering challenges and help move team up the analytical maturity curve (recommendations, automation, etc.)
•Architect frameworks for data pipeline orchestration (e.g. scheduling, configurations, dependency chaining, etc.) that facilitate error handling, notification, restorability and expedient data movement
•Participate in architecting ingestion and modeling of new data sources, including creation of Source-to-Target specifications which serve to document data lineage and as a mapping to inform ETL/ELT construction
•Create, deploy and manage data models which fulfill requirements but also balance simplicity, performance, flexibility and scalability
•Deliver high quality, robust and scalable code
•Perform research, evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies
•Ensure continued adoption of applications through an emphasis on user experience, iterative design refinement and regular training
•Assist in ongoing administration and refinement of processes and environments, including performance tuning, maintenance, upgrades and release management.
•Manage a team that consists of Data and Software engineers at different experience levels (Manager, Senior, Junior) and guide team members on best practices/standards
•Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the enterprise to centralize data and standardize it for use by business, data science, or other stakeholders
•Engages with team members, monitor their performance, uses structured approaches to career development opportunities to focus on individual improvement/capabilities, and provide adequate/balanced feedback
•Develop standards to which team should adhere
Qualifications
•Requires at least 9+ years of software development experience
•Comfort with multiple languages (JavaScript, Python, etc.)
•Experience with container platforms like Docker
•Must have strong SQL programming knowledge and experience
•Experience in Web Services, API integration, Data exchanges with third parties is preferred
•Data Analysis skill – can make arguments with data and proper visualization
•Energetic, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and passionate about producing high-quality analytics deliverables
•Have delivered solutions for several use cases leveraging large data sets and several variables to algorithmically recommend actions or automate those actions
•Knowledge of basic statistical analysis and machine learning
•Experience with Git or a similar distributed version control system
•Knowledge of React JS and Node JS scripting languages a plus
•Comprehensive understanding of cloud-based infrastructures/approaches and the nuances involved in achieving the scalability cloud offers but in a secure fashion
•Possess technical aptitude and a desire to learn new technologies
•Capable of taking ownership of and accountability for deliverables
•Able to work in a collaborative environment to support rapid development and delivery of results
•Exhibit an understanding of business problems and translate those into creative, innovative and practical solutions that deliver high quality services to the business
