Staff Cloud Engineer -

_ *The reason you code:*_

You write code because you want people to use it. Almost nothing frustrates you more than wasting time writing code that doesn’t have value; that doesn’t contribute to solving a problem that matters. Working on a list of requirements chiseled on a stone tablet by someone on the “business” team holds no interest for you. You want to fully understand the problem you are solving. You want to understand the customers you’re solving it for. You listen to them directly, ask them questions, and reach beyond their words to understand their needs. Then, and only then, you start designing and writing software. And when it launches, your solution blows your customers away. It is not the solution they asked for, it is the solution they are amazed to find they needed all along.

_ *How you solve problems:*_

You are undeterred by ambiguity. When you feel like you have no idea where to start, the feeling never lasts long. You strike the right balance of finding your own answers and asking questions to avoid spinning your wheels. You can’t stand to be beaten by a problem and are persistent almost to a fault. You finish what you start. You know that if a challenge isn’t a little daunting, it’s probably not worth doing. You love learning. You are comfortable just outside the boundaries of your comfort zone. (You get what we’re talking about even though that last sentence doesn’t really make any sense).

Your teammates have pulled you aside from time to time just to tell you how much they enjoy working with you. You share your knowledge and ideas freely. You point out opportunities where your team can improve, but no one thinks of you as overbearing. You admit mistakes out loud so that everyone can benefit from what you learned. You make others feel comfortable and included by being vulnerable. You have a sense of humor, or you appreciate it in others. You persuade others with your conviction, but you listen at the same time. You always look to disconfirm your own beliefs. You express gratitude and recognize good work.

_ **** Your opinions about coding ****_

To you, learning a new programming language is no big deal. It’s just a new syntax, some new libraries, and maybe a slightly different way of conceptualizing code. But you don’t set out to learn that new language without first learning why you should. What are its advantages? How will it benefit my customers?

You don’t look at testing as a phase of software development. Coding is writing and testing simultaneously. And while you’re grateful when someone finds a bug in your code, you can’t even conceive of making code quality someone else’s responsibility. You shake your head when software developers play code golf[1]. What’s the point of making code that even you won’t understand in six months?

_ ** **_

_ Your coding experience_

You have written code professionally for a few years and have experience with at least one strongly-typed language. You have good practical experience in a few, but probably not all, of the following areas: Modern web services architectures; Cloud platforms such as AWS; Designing and Implementing horizontally scalable services; Strong programming skills & scripting fundamentals; writing Go code; using Terraform; writing build, release, and CICD states on Linux; Deep understanding on Linux, SSL Certificates, Virtualization and containerization using Docker; working in a fast-paced & dynamic environment. You are solution-oriented, creative at solutions, and strong at problem-solving.

After reading this list you’re excited to learn what you don’t already know. And if you’re a tiny bit intimidated, don’t worry, we got you. You’ll be working with an amazing group of people who love mentorship. Oh yeah, almost forgot… You love mentorship.

_ ### About Fanatics and Cloud CICD team ###_

If you’ve read this far and are still nodding your head (not actually -- it looks weird when you nod while reading -- but figuratively), then we should definitely tell you a little about us.

If you’re a sports fan, chances are good you own some Fanatics gear that you bought through a website run by Fanatics. Fanatics is the global leader in licensed sports merchandise. If you aren’t a sports fan, you are probably a fan of something else and can help us imagine the possibilities. If you aren’t a fan of anything, yikes, you should be. Makes life more fun.

The team you’ll be joining focuses mainly in development, extend and maintain CICD infrastructure and works closely with developers to improve their productivity and deliver superior feature velocity and quality. We’ll be happy to get into more detail with you when we get the chance to chat.

We are a growing team working on an impactful product. We are software product developers that have been doing this for a while across a whole bunch of industries and solving a wide array of customer problems.

We’re friendly and we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We like getting together for lunch even though we have drastically different tastes in food (this is a deep metaphor for our team dynamic -- you simply can’t read too much into it).

We can’t wait to meet you :)
