The Opportunity

Getaround is looking for Backend Engineering Managers who serve two key roles. First, you will serve as a manager to Getaround’s backend engineers. We have talented software engineers dedicated to backend engineering for applications designed for a number of different users. Your technical expertise helps you provide guidance and mentorship to your team. Your empathy and communication skills help align their growth with the company’s needs, and accelerate the work of everyone around you.

Second, at Getaround, the Engineering Management team also represents engineering in strategic decisions across all major aspects of Getaround’s business. You will work not only with engineers outside your area of expertise (Frontend, Mobile, and Firmware engineering), but also colleagues in Product Management and Design. You’ll take ownership of business outcomes, while also tending to the team’s ability to confidently, safely, and consistently deploy new features to users.

What You'll Do

• Grow the engineering team. Continually improve the process of hiring and onboarding talented, motivated, and thoughtful engineers
• Be a mentor. Be keenly aware of what motivates a given engineer and help guide their career development
• Represent your team. Effectively communicate your progress and challenges. Secure commitments from leadership for the resources you need to build something great
• Set direction. Establish a roadmap alongside Product and Design colleagues that aligns with the priorities of the larger organization and commit to deadlines
• Manage team efficiency. Implement effective engineering processes and policies that emphasize quality and forward progress. Manage project scope and inter-team dependencies
• Stay close to code. Shepherd architecture and foundational decisions in services and backend infrastructure

What You'll Bring

• 1 year of management experience
• 5 years of hands-on development experience, primarily in services or backend infrastructure
• Currently proficient in a programming language
• Prior experience with – and enjoyment of – Python
• Experience in agile development in a fast-paced environment
