Who we are
Getaround connects safe, convenient, and affordable cars with people who need
them to live and work. Our community includes guests who rely on our cars for
on-demand mobility and hosts who share cars on our platform including those
who operate their own car-sharing businesses.
Our connected car technology allows guests to book and unlock a wide variety
of vehicles directly from our app without ever having to meet anyone in
person, carry an access card, wait in line, or coordinate picking up keys.
Cars are parked 22 hours a day on average. When we share cars, we don’t need
as many on the road, which means fewer accidents, reduced traffic, and less
space required for parking. Car sharing modernizes mobility by allowing people
to connect multiple forms of efficient transportation for any type of use
case.
Studies have shown that when car sharing is available, people drive less and
drive vehicles more appropriate for their use case, which can reduce household
carbon emissions by up to 40%. Also, shared cars are used more frequently and
retired more quickly, accelerating the adoption of newer, more energy-
efficient vehicles.
The Opportunity
Getaround is looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to help the
organization make decisions that better serve our users and the marketplace.
You will have the opportunity to lead foundation work in marketplace dynamics,
experimentation, pricing, claims, fraud, customer analytics, and more. More
than building ML models, this role will require finding creative ways to
quantitatively frame complex problems in a multi-sided marketplace on
different timescales. You will work closely with our Product, Engineering,
Growth, Marketing, Operations, Claims, and Business Intelligence teams to help
discover new opportunities, define the product roadmap, and drive strategic
initiatives. The team is based in San Francisco and we are fully remote.
What You'll Do
- Forecast the two-sided marketplace and model its dynamics to optimize pricing and growth strategy, while working closely with Operations and Claims/Actuarial teams
- Contribute to design of an experimentation platform including tools, processes, and best practices for causal inference and actionable interpretation
- Analyze marketplace participants to identify usage patterns and anomalous behavior to understand how and why people use our product
- Distill complex data and findings into understandable narratives, communicate with cross-functional stakeholders and make actionable recommendations
- Find opportunities to improve product efficiency and revenue performance, limit unwanted behavior through predictive and prescriptive analytics
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years experience in a role focused on applied statistics, data science or econometric modeling with a degree in related quantitative field
- Expertise in R or Python for statistical analysis and building machine learning models
- Expertise in using SQL for data extraction and transformation
- Experience in building predictive models for pricing, forecasting, or recommendation
- Experience in product experimentation and causal inference
- High level of attention to detail, ability to give detailed feedback on complex quantitative projects, a drive for comprehensive understanding and an unwillingness to accept conventional wisdom at face value
- Strong presentation and written communication skills with the ability to build consensus with multi level cross-functional stakeholders
Additional Awesomeness
- Experience with any part of our data stack: Airflow, BigQuery, dbt, Looker, and git would be helpful, but not a requirement
