About the Role
The Category Assistant is responsible for bringing suppliers, producers and
products identified by the Category Management team into all Good Eggs tools
and systems, such that those suppliers, producers and products are
operationalized for our category management, purchasing and operations teams.
This role will work closely with the Category Management team, the Growth
Marketing team, and facility-specific Inventory & Quality Control teams within
an assigned region or regions. The following is a list of potential
responsibilities, other duties will be assigned as needed.
Product Onboarding & Compliance
- Support the timely launch of new products in assigned categories by collecting required product data for merchandising, purchasing, and operations teams from producer and supplier partners
- Support Category Managers in the activation of new producer partners by collecting food safety, regulatory, and standards documentation
- Support Category Managers in the activation of new producer partners by collecting food safety, regulatory, and standards documentation
- Ensure ongoing producer and supplier compliance through regular reviews of documentation expiration dates and requests for updating documentation
Category Maintenance & Performance
- Work closely with external partners to coordinate accurate and up-to-date product data throughout the product life cycle
- Process retail price changes, seasonal product activations, and monitor SKU-level performance against category performance targets set by Senior Category Manager
- Ensure execution of scheduled promotions and features coordinated by Category
Quality Control
- Execute product quality standards alongside Senior Category Manager with an eye for continuous improvement
- Support centralized purchasing team by maintaining active communication across fulfillment centers and with external partners to triage shipment-specific product quality and data issues
- Escalate producer & supplier performance issues to category managers when further corrective action is required
Marketing Initiative Support
- Build alignment and prioritize requests across merchandising, category management, purchasing and marketing teams for cross-functional initiatives
- Ensure producer feature representation meets Purpose Team goals for producer diversity and CM goals around signal-boosting desirable and differentiating partners
- Manage and execute producer promotions to align with campaigns and features and prepare event/campaign/feature reporting as needed
Qualifications
- 1-2 years' experience in an administrative and coordination role, preferably within the Category Management, Buying, Purchasing, or Merchandising space
- Industry experience in Food or Grocery preferred
- Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office suite software (i.e. spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software)
- SQL knowledge a strong plus but not required
- Exceptional organization and task management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to understand and engage with new tools, including providing feedback on internal software
- Passion for food, sustainable agricultural practices and high quality standards
- Knowledge and understanding of quality standards, certifications, & regulations preferred
- Smartphone available for work use
Working Conditions
- Typical office working conditions, with occasional hands on work with the QC team
- Potential for occasional site visits to producer locations, rural farms/ranches or manufacturing facilities
- Physical requirements are typical for office working conditions, with potential for occasional lifting, carrying and/or pushing and/or pulling products weighing up to 30 pounds.
