SpeechLab is a pre-seed startup that is seeking to make the world more accessible by building a new platform for automated speech translation. Despite substantial progress with speech and translation technologies, AI- based solutions for speech interpretation are still inelegant and expensive and significantly lag human level performance. SpeechLab will address these shortcomings through an integrated product that delivers comprehensible text and speech output in a target language that will initially focus on meeting the needs of over the top media companies. Speechlab's founders have successfully launched and built category defining products in the speech technology sector.

Speechlab is supported by the AI Fund based in Palo Alto, California. Founded by Dr. Andrew Ng, AI Fund is a startup studio focused on resolving problems to move the world forward. AI Fund builds new AI companies to bridge AI technology and critical applications.

As an early team member, you will work with our founding Head of Technology to shape how we extend state of the art speech technology and machine translation models to address the problem of speech-to-speech translation. Along with having overall responsibility for elements of the roadmap and will collaborate with others in the research team to come up with creative solutions for challenging problems in related areas. This is a full-time remote position.

Here Is What You Will Do:

• Contribute to the design, development and training of our model pipeline for speech translation that incorporates automatic speech recognition, machine translation and speech synthesis
• Implement and evaluate the latest relevant published state-of-the-art ideas into our core models
• Work with the engineering team to deploy, maintain and tune models based on user data and feedback
• Collaborate on ML roadmap and strategy for developing new models, managing data, and processes to extend and continuously improve the SpeechLab service

We Are Looking For:

• MS or PhD in EE, CS or a related field or highly relevant work experience
• Strong proficiency in Python , C/C++ and shell programming
• Exposure and familiarity with ML, in particular, toolkits such as PyTorch/Tensorflow, and the ability to build ML models, diagnose and debug issues as they occur during model training and in production
• Desire to work with a very experienced founding team to build something special

Ideally You Will Have:

• 3+ years of academic or industry experience developing and tuning models for speech recognition, machine translation, speech synthesis or related domains
• Experience replicating ML models and approaches from published journal/conference articles
