Do you want to learn about and work in the future energy economy? Quantumscape is looking for an Equipment Engineer to help start up our QS-0 battery factory in San Jose. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, installing, and maintaining Manufacturing equipment in the chemical, semiconductor, ceramic, or battery industries.

Responsibilities:

Drive design, development and commissioning ramp of complex and custom high speed automated manufacturing equipment.

Test and validate new designs and equipment.

Lead the installation, modification, upgrade, and maintenance planning of manufacturing equipment.

Maintain current records on equipment manufacturers’ technical notices, upgrades, and safety issues.

Establish parts inventory, research second source options to support equipment.

Establish programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process.

Provide technical support to the manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations.

Work with equipment vendors to ensure tool support is being provided during line down situations.

Provide troubleshooting support for sophisticated issues and address root causes.

Supports TPM practices including TPM metrics, WS health reports, CIP items, MTAGs, MOP documents and restoration guides.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

MS or BS in Engineering or equivalent proven experience working as an Equipment Technician. Other engineering or related fields may be considered.

Basic knowledge of the main utility systems supplied by the Facilities group.

Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, including fundamentals of electricity, and basic electronic components and circuits.

Strong mechanical aptitude to enable understanding of mechanical systems.

Know SPC principles such as improving Cpk and reducing defectivity baselines and how the equipment affects SPC performance.

Understand how process control programs and manufacturing execution systems interact.

Strong skills to work in a matrix organization with excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and negotiation skills required.

Experience working with an international community, especially with overseas suppliers who are non-native English speakers.
