** QuantumScape** is seeking a Principal Construction Safety Engineer (PMTS) to join the Manufacturing - Environment Health & Safety team. This team member will inspect worksites to look for hazards that could cause injury and recommend ways to improve the safety of the work environment. The work environment includes all areas of a worksite, including maintenance activities of the facilities equipment, installation of new facilities and process equipment, and all construction activities. This could include all safety aspects related to the contractor selection process, contractor work plan reviews, training, confined space entry, hot work permitting, electrical work, scaffolding, etc on a job site.

The ** Principal Construction Safety Engineer's** role is vital in ensuring federal, state, local, and ** QuantumScape** EHS standards and regulations are met, and that any violations are discovered proactively and are corrected. Keeping the site and its employees, safe and in compliance with EHS standards is the primary goal.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement EHS policies and programs that embrace matters directly or indirectly concerned with safety and protection during maintenance activities, tool installation activities, and construction work
  • Identify safety and environmental hazards relevant to construction and tool installation and develop and implement mitigation strategies
  • Perform audits and inspections of worksites to ensure compliance with EHS program requirements, prepare technical reports of inspection findings, develop corrective actions, track actions to closure
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with construction teams, Facilities, contractors, and subcontractors. Work with employees and contractors as necessary to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy workplace
  • Develop and integrate construction safety metrics into daily activities
  • Drive incidents to zero by proactive construction safety approach
  • Assist in the development of policies, training, and written procedures as needed and in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Work with cross-functional teams of scientists, equipment design, Hardware Maintenance, Facilities ad EHS during the design, installation, and decommission equipment in a rapidly changing environment
  • Participate in construction/planning meetings; communicate compliance needs and safety requirements
  • Administer EHS programs in compliance with standards and requirements to ensure safe, healthy, and efficient operations during all construction and installation work
  • Complete hazard and job safety analyses to ensure proper use of machinery and equipment, personal protective equipment and procedures
  • Conduct incident investigations to ascertain causes and to develop preventive safety measures
  • Participate in Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team activities
  • May participate in regulatory inspections of construction sites
  • Some travel may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in safety, engineering or related fields
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction or heavy industry safety
  • Thorough understanding of applicable construction occupational health, safety, and environmental principles, and of local, state, and federal regulations
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other safety related regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing environment with Facilities, Hardware, and R&D leaders, as well as all construction personnel and staffing at all levels

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • MS safety, engineering or related field and 8 yrs of construction or heavy industry safety experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time
  • May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
  • May be required to use hand or power tools
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds, push and extend arms
