** QuantumScape** is an energy storage technology company located in San
Jose, CA , and we are working on a fundamental disruption in the field of
energy storage. We seek to change the paradigm in energy storage by developing
a completely new class of electrical energy storage devices. Our ground-
breaking technology is based on work done by researchers at Stanford
University.
As we expand, we are looking to add a **_Principal Equipment Safety Engineer
- PMTS_** _ _ to our team. This team member will review equipment and its
installation to look for hazards that could cause injury or harm the
environment.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply Safety by Design concepts to new projects and installations
- Complete equipment and process risk assessments along with regulatory compliance review
- Integrate safe designs into chemical, mechanical, electrical and robotic safety
- Lead process hazard analyses during the equipment design and procurement
- Work with cross-functional teams of scientists, equipment designers, Hardware Maintenance technicians, Facilities engineers, and EHS during the design, installation, and decommissioning of equipment in a rapidly changing environment
- Assist in the development of policies, training, and written procedures as needed and in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Participate in construction, equipment design and planning meetings and communicate compliance needs and safety requirements
- Audit and inspect facilities for compliance with applicable regulations; track corrective measures to closure
- Identify safety and environmental hazards relevant to construction and tool installation and develop and implement mitigation strategies
- Perform audits and inspections of worksites to ensure compliance with EHS program requirements, prepare technical reports of inspection findings, develop corrective actions, tracks actions to closure
- Assist in the development of policies, training, and written procedures as needed and in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Participate in Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team activities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial hygiene/safety, occupational health and safety, or equivalent and experience in relevant technical safety fields
- Minimum 10 years of experience (MS +8 years experience; or PhD +6 years experience) working with equipment and process safety, including reviewing, testing, and commissioning manufacturing and laboratory equipment
- Knowledgeable in chemical, mechanical, electrical and robotic safety in addition to developing safe operating procedures
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Firm understanding of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, RIA, IBC, and SEMI standards
- Experience in completing/leading PHAs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time
- Frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
- Required to use hand or power tools
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds, push and extend arms
