The Cell Product Development Team is looking to augment their team with the addition of an experienced and meticulous ** _Principal Mechanical Engineer - PMTS _**who is looking for technical challenges and professional growth. There will be an opportunity to lead projects and focused teams working on cell packages.

JOB SUMMARY

The individual chosen for this mission-critical role will be responsible for designing cell packaging based on the customers' requirements and work closely with our FEA (finite element analysis) and (CFD) computational fluid dynamics engineers to accelerate our team's design activities. They will work in small teams to prototype new sophisticated battery enclosure designs, assembly equipment, and pilot-line production machines to help scale our technology to high-volume at low-cost production in our coming Giga-Battery production factory.

Consideration will be given to qualified candidates from battery, medical, semiconductor, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, or other fields with related technology and development models.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop industry standard and innovative solid-state cell enclosures for high-volume low-cost manufacturing
• Work with other design engineers on verification/validation, as well as design optimization
• Recommend design changes/directions to meet product performance requirements
• Participate in team brainstorming and new technology development

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar concentration
• Minimum 10 years of design experience in high-volume, sheet metal, injection molding, stamping, die casting, and/or stage tooling.
• Extensive 3D CAD experience (i.e. SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, Autodesk Vault, etc.)
• Versed in product evaluation and qualification testing (i.e., drop, shack, fragility, environment, transportation, regulatory, compliance, safety, UL, CSA, TUV, RoHS, WEEE, and REACH)

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Validation and mechanical performance testing
• Self-motivated to identify and close design issues
• Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills
