We are looking for a Baseline Scale-Up Process Engineer to join our team to help drive pilot line scale-up activities and work with process engineers to successfully sustain, continuously improve existing methods, and support the development of new processing techniques to increase product performance and reliability.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with process engineers to sustain and continuously improve existing coating, stacking and sintering processes including operations activities related to tracing material movement in the line
  • Serve as the manufacturing liaison to other organizations supporting scale up activities, such as Hardware, Facilities, Quality, EHS, Metrology, IT and R&D
  • Drive ramp up activities as they relate to procurement of consumables and equipment required for scale up, layout planning, efficient material flow and material storage, material tracking
  • Independently and collaboratively, develop tools and processes to stack and assemble thin films to meet specifications
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to develop next generation tooling, develop test fixtures, secondary tooling and QC test equipment
  • Technology transfer to operators or 3rd party functional groups
  • Define performance requirements and technical specifications to develop new processing methods to improve performance and/or form factors aligned with our technology roadmap
  • Test hypotheses by applying engineering statistics and design of experiment concepts to methodically plan and execute process experiments and yield conclusive results
  • Analyze and effectively communicate your results to management
  • Define process specifications, contribute to design reviews, participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing of new tools, and partner with process engineering teams to qualify the new equipment and process changes successfully into the baseline process
  • Develop and maintain drawings, operating procedures, and work instructions
  • Work in accordance with all safety procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. In Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with a proven track record in a manufacturing or development engineering role where you played a crucial role in defining design and process requirements
  • Technology transfer experience from R&D to Pilot and High-Volume Manufacturing
  • You have worked on multi-functional projects where you had to lead others

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • MS or higher degree in materials, mechanical, ceramic, electrical, or chemical engineering
  • Experience working within an operation and/or manufacturing teams
  • Practical knowledge of six sigma methodologies is a plus
  • Familiar with statistical process control methods, MES, JMP, Python, AutoCAD, SPC, Scada
  • Tool design, MES implementation, material traceability, automation integration
  • High-temperature furnace or processing experience
  • Thin-film processing experience
  • Experience developing and tooling to deliver results on time and within budget.
  • Experience working in multi-functional teams delivering breakthrough process improvements.
  • Experience in leading junior level engineers or technicians and leading cross-functional teams

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills and standing for extended periods of time, reaching and twisting motions with hands, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time
  • May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
  • May be required to use hand or power tools
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, push and extend arms.
