We are developing batteries that will power the next generation of transportation. Do you want to learn about and work on a critical part of the future energy economy? As part of our Advanced Research team, the Senior Metallurgical Engineer will scout the frontier of our technology to seek high- risk, high-reward projects. You will work with the CTO plus a small team to prototype new sophisticated fabrication methods, equipment, and production processes to integrate our technology on the road to a highly scaled GigaBattery Factory.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • BS in Material Science, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry or Physics

  • Minimum 5 years experience with flexible webs preferentially in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience working in a lab

  • Experience transitioning from a lab to the production environment

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • MS in an Engineering Field

  • Familiarity with data processing and/or statistics at the undergraduate level

  • Practical and/or theoretical understanding of winding of flexible materials

  • Manufacturing experience in thin metal foil thermo-mechanical processing a plus!

  • Background in quality management systems

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in materials characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, and the like)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and measure prototypes in a laboratory by working hands-on

  • Perform preliminary data analysis and prepare reports for colleagues

  • Support battery scaling projects with technical expertise relating to flexible web converting and end-use applications

  • Provide hands-on support to identify, develop and implement quality processes and system improvements to increase output yields

  • Management of projects as assigned

  • Audit and measure product performance against standards or process requirements as defined

  • Advise, execute, and monitor preventative and corrective actions to ensure that quality standards are attained
