QuantumScape is located in San Jose, California working on new energy storage technology to allow electric vehicles to outperform internal combustion cars. We're looking for experienced, highly motivated engineers to develop equipment to process our novel battery materials.

In this role:

QuantumScape is seeking a Senior Roll to Roll Automation Controls Engineer on the Automation Equipment Design and Development team that is responsible for designing and building the automation and robotic equipment for the solid- state battery factory. As a Roll to Roll Automation Controls Engineer, you will develop, troubleshoot and continuously improve controls software and system through the full lifecycle, from process specification to software requirements, architecture, implementation algorithms, coding, testing, and production.

Requirements:

Experience and education:

• BS or higher degree in mechatronics, electrical, software or other engineering fields

• 10+ years of proven experience with equipment design, automation, and integration from R&D to manufacturing environments

• Direct hands-on experience on automation control for roll-to-roll processing equipment.

• Hands-on experience on control application development of servo, actuator, vacuum generator/pump, sensors such as T/Cs, RTDs, pressure sensors, location/distance/presence sensors, encoders.

• Installation and support of equipment into production

Skills, Knowledge and abilities:

• Determination of equipment specifications

• Equipment quality assurance and documentation during all phases of development and implementation

• Strong PLC and HMI programming experience, Allen-Bradley preferred

• Design, implementation, maintaining, and troubleshooting of automated roll-to-roll control systems, including tension, speed, and various process parameters.

• Strong understanding of tool systems and controls, including motion control, industrial interfaces (Ethernet/IP, serial communications, Ethernet, etc.) and safety interlocks.

• A strong understanding of SEMI (S2, S8, S22 and F47), NFPA 79 and UL standards.

• Experience with electrical and Control system documentation, including System Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, BOM, Control Enclosure Layout, Power and Interlock Schematics.

• Experienced in CAD.

• Excellent communication skills and positive attitude required.
