About the Role

This is a full-time role for the right legal counsel to provide a key in-house role while our regular UK counsel is on leave for approximately 12 months.

Rocket Lawyer pioneered online legal services in the United States and United Kingdom, and we have recently launched in France, Spain and Netherlands. The proprietary and patented Rocket Lawyer technology platform enables the creation of legal documentation and delivery of legal advice from lawyers knowledgeable in local laws, in any language. You'll be based in Shoreditch, London, the biggest tech cluster in Europe, working with the global legal team.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be part of a highly commercial and collaborative legal team.

You will be the primary legal counsel for the UK business with responsibility for supporting Rocket Lawyer UK with its employment matters, contract negotiations, privacy and data protection compliance, commercial product counselling, and other legal matters. You'll be drafting, negotiating and managing a broad range of commercial contracts, and supporting the business on the development and implementation of its products and services. Further, you'll be advising on other matters, including intellectual property and technology related legal issues, and managing external counsel resources where appropriate.

The Person

• A qualified solicitor in England and Wales (with at least 2 PQE)
• A commercially minded lawyer with experience likely gained in a private practice or in-house role
• Is comfortable and familiar with existing and emerging technology
• Excellent drafting and negotiating skills
• Able to build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation
• Has a good grounding in data protection and compliance matters
• Is comfortable working under pressure and able to juggle different priorities
• Is proactive, organised and has strong communication skills (oral and written)
• Can work autonomously as well as cross-functionally with other teams
• Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
